The produce that comes out of our Mother Earth is a gift to us. Can it do us any harm? Unless we corrupt it with Chemicals and pesticides.
Eating well helps to reduce the risk of physical health problems like heart disease and diabetes. It also helps with sleeping patterns, energy levels, and general health. Eating well also helps our mood, our balance and our Meditation. Eating well meaning eating the food that is grown naturally with out the influence of chemicals and pesticides.
Traditionally we were farming naturally tilling the lands and sowing hair loom seeds and administering cow dung as fertiliser . We are healthy and farms are healthy .
But, as population increased, Food security became an issue.
Food Security
Green Revolution
A large increase in crop production in developing countries achieved by the use of artificial fertilizers, pesticides, and high-yield crop varieties.
The Green Revolution was a period when the productivity of global agriculture increased drastically as a result of new advances. During this time period, new chemical fertilizers and synthetic herbicides and pesticides were created. The chemical fertilizers made it possible to supply crops with extra nutrients and, therefore, increase yield. The newly developed synthetic herbicides and pesticides controlled weeds, deterred or kill insects, and prevented diseases, which also resulted in higher productivity.
The use of chemical fertilizers and synthetic herbicides and pesticides dramatically influenced the environment by increasing pollution and erosion. The new materials added to the soil and plants polluted the soil and water systems around the fields. The pollution of the water exposed people and the environment downstream to the chemicals being used in the farm fields. The pollution of the soil resulted in lower soil quality, which increased the risk of erosion of the topsoil.
In addition to pollution, the environment was also influenced by the large irrigation systems that were required to sustain the growth of the plants.
The whole scenario is changed now and many diseases are caused due to these chemicals .
Though all this was done for food security, India remains as the largest undernourished and hungry .
When ground water is a problem for the water intense crops like Wheat , rice and Sugarcane, how does one tackle the problem of food safety?
Millets is the answer for the food security as they are basically rain fed crops with very less water and no fertilisers as they are pest resistant .Each millets are three to five times nutritionally superior to rice and wheat in terms of proteins, minerals and vitamins. Millets are rich in B vitamins, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, zinc, also gluten-free and has low-GI (Glycemic index) thus millets are suitable for people allergies/intolerance of wheat. Also for diabetic, weight loss millets are excellent.
TANTVA Traditional farming is into promoting and practising no chemicals used as manures and pesticides. We use Jeevamrutha, Gana Jeevarutha, Vermi compost , Panchagavya as our natural Manures using Desi cow dung and urine along with chemical free Flours and jaggery. We use Desi cow dung urine , neem and other herbs to prepare herbicides and pesticides .
Under our mission “I support my farmer”, we educate our farmers on these preparations which they have forgotten over the years though their ancestors followed the same practices.
TANTVA Organic and Natural farming wing of TANTVA Group , purchases the crop grown by the farmers thus supporting and encouraging them to grow chemical free .
